"Would You Rather?" Makeup Edition

I saw this tag on Mischevious and it looked like fun! I would love to read your answers, so feel free to post them in the comments section or link to your blog post.

QUESTIONS:

1.) Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lipglosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?
My heart just stopped thinking about this happening, which proves that I have too much invested in my beauty collection. Mascara I replace every 3 months so that doesn't have any bearing on this question. What it comes down to is: Dior Palettes vs Chanel lipsticks. Even though it feels like betrayal, I will say the lipstick category.

2.) Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?
Chop it all off and wear wings until it grew back out. I have never had short hair, but long hair only looks good when it is maintained.

3.) Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?
Pink because it is more versatile and there are many different hues.

4.) If you had $1000 to spend, Would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

Clothes. I would head to the closest Nordstrom Rack and stretch the $1000 as far as it could go.
5.) Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?
Eyeliner as lipstick because eyeliners come in so many different colours and you can get precise application.

6.) Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?
Sephora. I love variety and experimenting with new formulas and brands. I find it interesting that some people think that MAC is the have all and end all of makeup.

7.) Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?
One eyeshadow. A neutral shadow goes with everything and you can always introduce colour with eyeliner and lipstick.

8.) Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?
I love winter and autumn clothing but I hate feeling hot. I would rather wear summer clothes in the winter (assuming that layering is permissible).

9.) Would you rather wear dark nails or bright nails all year round?
Dark nails. OPI's Bastille My Heart is my all time favourite nail colour and I could easily wear it year round.

10.) Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?
This question seems redundant, but I would rather give up my favourite lip product.

11.) Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a pony tail or a messy bun?
Pony tail. I don't like having my hair all up because it gives me headaches (lots of hair=strain on neck).

12.) Would your rather never being able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?
Never paint my nails again. It has only been the past year or so that I gotten into nail colours. I used to use clear polish when I had a manicure or pedicure.

13.) Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all? or sharpie them in everyday?

Sharpie them in everyday. I would use the lightest Sharpie I could find and use feather light strokes LOL!

14.) Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?
Oh please, there is no comparison. I could start living without nail polish today.

[FOTD] Face of the Day: Drugstore Drama

I like to call drugstore beauty finds "guilt free." Why? Because I can forgo my daily Blenz Amaretto Latte and in place buy one (and sometimes two!) amazing products that will perk up my day. If I am at the department store or Sephora for a pick-me-up, it costs a meal...or two.

All of the products used in this look are available at Shoppers Drug Mart. If you are missing that pang of buyer's guilt, you can always pick up a chocolate bar at checkout.

-Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder (light contour)
-Bourjois Blush #95 Rose de Jaspe

LORAC: Little Black Palette vs TANtelEYEs Palette

The little black dress is supposed to be the solution to every fashion dilemma by making us look tantalizing. Wouldn't it be great if we had eye shadow palettes that solved the same beauty dilemmas? Well, LORAC thought so too.

I had only seen pictures of these two palettes online, and to my eye they appeared quite similar. My local Sephora does not carry LORAC so it took a trip to Seattle a few months ago to finally see these two beauties up close and personal. They are very different from each other, but equally beautiful.

TANtelEYES Palette

Little Black Palette

I bought the Little Black Palette and my sister bought the TANtelEYES palette since there was no point in both of us buying two palettes when we could just share (after all, what is 3 steps across the hall?). For me it was simply a matter of colour preference and what suited my skin tone the best for daily wear.

PROS
-the pigmentation on these shadows is crazy! Almost as good as Inglot
-high metallic shine
-no fall-out during application
-easy to blend and layer
-silky texture
-each shadow is huge (two times the amount of a standard shadow)

CONS
-no matte or satin shades so if you are using just this palette, you have to like shimmer all over your eye
-medium wear time but last all day when I use a primer

Grade: B+

My Summer Style: Purses

From September-June I weigh down my shoulder with a bag that weighs like a ton of bricks. My work bag holds my computer, curriculum, marked homework, water bottle, and all other survival tools for a high school teacher. For work I use the Jayden bag from Urban Expressions (I can't bring myself to buy a briefcase or computer bag),
but by the summer I want something that is lighter and more compact. All I carry with me in the summer are the bare essentials (wallet, phone, lip balm, iPod, book) so I can prevent looking like the Hunchback of Notre Dame year round.

For the past year I have been using my Tristan bag from Urban Expressions for every day errands,
but I was getting bored of using black all the time and all my colourful bags were too big for everyday use. Time for a trip to For Love 21 (Forever 21's accessory store offspring) and H&M.

(For Love 21)
(For Love 21)
(H&M-headband and bag)

These are the only 4 bags I have used all summer and my shoulder thanks me daily. There is something very liberating about travelling light.

My Summer Style: Accessories

I recently walked into a well-known Canadian clothing store and spotted a lovely rich jewel toned beaded necklace. Come to mama. I flipped over the price tag and-GASP!-shoved the necklace on the rack and walked away. $49.99 (plus HST) for a necklace that I could get for $10.00 at Forever 21. So that's what I did-I went to Forever 21 and bought a bag full of accessories for the same price that I would have paid for single necklace in the aforementioned store.

Accessories do not have to take a huge chunk out of your shopping budget. Just because something looks expensive, doesn't mean that it is. My favourite places to find quality and lovely accessories are Smart Set, H&M, and Forever 21.

Summer is the perfect time to experiment with different colours, finishes, and styles in your accessories. A jewel toned necklace or a colourful stack of bangles can bring any outfit to life.

My Summer Style: Shoes and Hats

I like to have fun accessorizing from the top of my head to the tips of my toes.

Hats
I have a hat collection for every season. My love for hats was birthed at a young age along with my obsession with black and white movies and television shows from the 1930s-50s. This summer I put away my large brimmed hats and opted for the simpler fedoras. My favourite hat this summer is a hybrid between a 1930s cloche and a fedora-the best of both worlds:

Shoes
Summer will find me either in a strappy sandle or a comfortable wedge shoe. I rarely wear flip flops ever since a traumatizing experience a 5 years ago (yes I counted). And by traumatizing I mean the toe strap of one flip flop breaking in the middle of the McGill ghetto requiring me to walk barefoot downtown Montreal and down into the underground where the closest Payless Shoes was. Humiliating. And I had to soak my feet in bleach afterwards. But I digress.

This summer I limited myself to 3 new pairs of shoes. I have one pair of black jeweled sandals that I bought last year from Spring that I wear almost daily, but sadly they are reaching the end of their serviceable life.

(Spring)
(American Eagle for Payless Shoes. Honestly the most comfortable shoes I own. Regret not buying them in black.)
(Nine West. These are suede so they will transition well into the fall and spring)
